Or maybe it's an omen that we should look to experience to pull us through tough times as anything less than that and skill will most likely spell doom...

I agree with EVERYTHING you said! I'm watching more of the History channel and ANYTHING else except the news.
Your words and thoughts are mine exactly. Thank you for expressing my viewpoint so intelligently.

Being a little more than curious about Generation Jones - it seems that- according to one site I found, I could be a part of this group too. This site explains all the different groups.

I do also think that some born later than 1954 are a part of the "late boomer" group, as people I know a bit younger than I am still remember the civil rights movement and the initial de-segregation of public schools. That seems to be what defines whether we are a "late boomer" or a "Joneser".

It seems that the Jonesers, not having witnessed the reality of marches and the de-segregation process, experienced the trials and tribulations of the earliest phases of implimenting that process. As a result, their view may - or may not - be as positive, depending on what they personally experienced and the attitudes of their parents and community.

Interesting post and blog. Relevantly, particularly given the "late Boomer" slant of your blog, many prominent experts and publications have pointed out that Obama is part of Generation Jones, born 1954-1965, between the Boomers and GenXers.
This link takes you to a page you may find interesting: it has, among other things, excerpts from publications like Newsweek and the New York Times, and videos with over 25 top pundits, all talking specifically about Obama’s identity as a GenJoneser:

I can definitely see that. Born in 1953, I am at the tail end of the boomer generation. I don't think those younger than me, who didn't grow up watching and experiencing first hand the civil rights movement understand just how significant the election of Obama is. It does give me hope that all people of color can now lift the bonds of prejudice from themselves. While I don't think this will happen overnight, I do hope that the boomers who did grow up with racially negative views can learn to accept that everyone - male or female - is included in the word "mankind."

Thanks for sharing the youtube video. What is good to learn is that the Jones generation have grown up in a world a lot more tolerant than I did. This new chapter in America's evolution is an exciting one.

Relevantly, as many influential experts and publications have repeatedly pointed out, Obama is part of Generation Jones, born 1954-1965, between the Boomers and Xers.

Here's a recent 5 minute GenJones video which features many top pundits specifically talking about Obama's membership in Generation Jones: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ta_Du5K0jk
